UC Regents hire Hueston Hennigan for Investigation
The University of California Board of Regents has hired Hueston Hennigan and former state Supreme Court justice Carlos R. Moreno to determine whether UC President Janet Napolitano’s office interfered with a recent state audit.
The Hueston Hennigan team, led by Managing Partner Brian Hennigan, and Ret. Justice Moreno, now at JAMS, were retained after State Auditor Elaine M. Howle determined that Napolitano’s office had amassed $175 million in unaccounted for budget funds over four fiscal years.
Hueston Hennigan has particular expertise in the area of governmental investigations. It was hired in April by the San Diego Association of Governments (SanDag) to conduct an independent examination of an inaccurate revenue forecast for a proposed half-cent tax hike last fall. The firm has also conducted internal investigations for the City of Santa Monica and the County of San Bernardino.
