Avi Weiss is an associate focusing on complex litigation. Prior to joining Hueston Hennigan, Mr. Weiss clerked for the Hon. Carol Bagley Amon of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and was a litigation associate with Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP.

During law school, Mr. Weiss served as a judicial extern for the Hon. Paul Engelmayer of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He also served as essays editor for the Columbia Law Review and as a mediator for the Columbia Law Mediation Clinic. He was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and a James Kent Scholar, among other honors.

Mr. Weiss also externed for the New York Legal Assistance Group’s Veterans Practice, where he assisted veterans with researching and filing disability and other cases, and he interned for the Real Estate Finance Bureau of the New York State Office of the Attorney General.

Experience

Successfully defended the country’s largest integrated health care system in multiple wrongful death arbitrations.

Representing a Western utility against numerous lawsuits in multiple jurisdictions across Oregon and California arising out of the 2020 Labor Day Fires. The fires burned over 500,000 acres across at least five counties in Oregon and California and allegedly destroyed over 2,000 structures. In the latest damages-only trial in which the utility faced a nine-figure damages exposure, persuaded a jury to award just a fraction of what the plaintiffs sought.

Representing a Broadcom affiliate in a pending contract and intellectual property lawsuit against Delta Air Lines.
