Chandler Matz practices complex commercial litigation with an emphasis on intellectual property litigation. He has experience in all phases of litigation from pretrial investigation through trial.  Mr. Matz has represented clients in various industries, including semiconductors, digital right management, network security, consumer electronics, and motor vehicles, before federal district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).  Prior to joining Hueston Hennigan, Mr. Matz was a patent litigation associate at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP

Prior to law school, Mr. Matz was a Digital Design Engineer at Texas Instruments where he worked in System-on-a-Chip (SoC) design verification. During his undergraduate studies in electrical and computer engineering, Mr. Matz was also an Information and Communications Laboratory Intern at The Georgia Tech Research Institute, where he used both commercial and custom hardware to build systems centered around software defined ratios, and an intern in the Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group at Intel Corporation.

Experience

Representing Samsung Bioepis against a breach-of-contract lawsuit brought by Johnson & Johnson and Janssen Biotech concerning Samsung’s manufacture of the biosimilar Ustekinumab-ttwe. Defeated two attempts to obtain preliminary injunctions against Samsung Bioepis and won appeal defending favorable district court order. (See “J&J Loses Appeal to Block Samsung’s Stelara Biosimilar Drug Copy,” Bloomberg; “J&J sues Samsung Bioepis over Stelara biosimilar,” Reuters).

Secured a favorable settlement for Amazon.com in a patent infringement lawsuit in the Eastern District of Texas alleging over a billion in damages for use of Amazon Robotic’s technology in Amazon’s fulfillment centers.

Represented an international semiconductor company in a multi-jurisdictional patent dispute, resulting in a global settlement following an evidentiary hearing before the International Trade Commission.

Represented a technology company specializing in digital rights management against major U.S. based-entities, resulting in multiple favorable settlements.

Represented a semiconductor start-up in a dispute involving 12 patents against an industry-leading competitor.
