Tom King is an accomplished patent litigator with comprehensive experience in judicial, administrative, and international proceedings. He uses all parts of the litigation system to achieve his clients’ business and negotiating objectives. Mr. King is deeply rooted in the legal, technical, and strategic aspects of any dispute, and uses that understanding to present a winning case for his clients.

Mr. King also provides counsel on how to conduct patent litigation from both a plaintiff’s and defendant’s point of view. He has also served as lead or backup counsel in dozens of IPRs, successfully representing both petitioners and patent owners at all phases of IPR including at hearing and on appeal.

Mr. King’s experience covers a wide range of subject areas including semiconductors, data systems, telecommunications, voice recognition, network security, VPN, displays, image sensors, hard disk drives, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, power generation equipment, robotics, batteries and other energy storage, sonar, and night vision. He has also participated in four patent infringement trials, one in the Eastern District of Texas and three in the District of Delaware.

Mr. King was previously a partner at Haynes and Boone, where his practice focused on patent litigation and counseling.

Obtained summary judgment of non-infringement in favor of Amazon.com against claims for patent infringement brought by serial patent litigant MasterObjects, Inc. (See “Amazon Beats Patent Claims After Alsup ‘Misstated’ Its Motion,” Law360).

Secured a favorable settlement for Amazon.com in a patent infringement lawsuit in the Eastern District of Texas alleging over a billion in damages for use of Amazon Robotic’s technology in Amazon’s fulfillment centers.

Successfully represented a medical device company in a series of five IPRs against its foundational patents for glaucoma-treating stents.

Represented a financial security technology company in litigation and IPR proceedings against a major credit card payment processor.

Successfully represented a semiconductor designer in a two-week commercial arbitration concerning RF networking.
