Victory for BlackBerry In Civil Extortion and Unfair Competition Claims

News Headlines - newspapers stacked behind headlines text

Hueston Hennigan secured a victory for Blackberry in civil extortion and unfair competition claims leveled against it by MobileIron, forcing it to pay Blackberry’s legal fees and drop its lawsuit.

As John Hueston noted to Law360, “MobileIron’s agreement to pay BlackBerry’s legal fees “completely vindicates” the propriety of BlackBerry’s licensing practices.”

MobileIron had alleged that BlackBerry was infringing four of its mobile security technology patents and that BlackBerry had violated California’s civil extortion laws when its lawyers sent MobileIron notices that the software company was, itself, allegedly infringing BlackBerry’s own patents.

The Hueston Hennigan team includes John Hueston, Moez Kaba, Doug Dixon, Christy Von der Ahe Rayburn, Joseph Reiter, Michael Todisco, Linda Xu and Neil Anderson.
