Spencer Schmider practices complex commercial, environmental, and criminal litigation, representing a wide variety of clients. Mr. Schmider has written dispositive briefs in numerous federal district courts, managed critical discovery issues, and contributed to strategic decisions regarding all aspects of a case.

During law school, Mr. Schmider was a member of the American Constitution Society and participated in the Environmental Law Pro Bono.

Experience

Won a complete arbitration trial victory on all claims and counterclaims for a prominent Napa winery and its majority owner against the winery’s founder, former CEO, and minority owner in a case alleging fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and other claims. The award included more than $5 million in damages, fees and costs, in addition to an extraordinary order dissociating the defendant from his role as a member of the company.

Secured more than $40 million in settlements for the Navajo Nation in an action against the Environmental Protection Agency and private parties for damages in connection with the environmental disaster caused by the Gold King Mine spill.

Representing restaurant franchisor FAT Brands Inc. in parallel criminal and SEC proceedings involving alleged violations of the securities laws.

Obtained a favorable settlement for CoreLogic Credco, LLC in a consumer class action lawsuit alleging violations of federal and state credit reporting laws.

Representing the former CEO of a public company in parallel criminal and SEC investigations.

Represented a Minor League Baseball franchise in negotiations with Major League Baseball regarding MLB’s minor league reorganization.
