Lawyers

Hueston Hennigan focuses on winning trials and training trial lawyers. Since 2015, we have successfully tried numerous high-profile cases in forums across the country, amassing an extraordinary record of victories. We achieve these impressive results because we are committed to quickly preparing new lawyers for trial and hiring the strongest possible legal and professional teams at all levels.

Associates

Our associates—a diverse group drawn from the most selective law schools and clerkships in the country—receive compensation and bonuses at the industry’s highest levels. They take on and succeed at substantive roles in high-impact cases, generally within their first year. Our most junior lawyers serve in critical roles on our trial teams, and our partners are recognized as among the country’s top trial lawyers.

Because our associates are so vital to the success we deliver for our clients, we provide top-of-the-market compensation and regularly beat market bonuses.

Given our commitment to our lawyers and impressive results, we have been named one of the best firms by numerous publications, including Vault’s “Top 10 Best Law Firms to Work For.” We make substantial, ongoing investments in recruiting, developing, and retaining talented associates, starting with a hands-on training program that emphasizes mastery of courtroom advocacy skills.

Our commitment to early trial experience is also reflected in our courtroom advocacy program: paired with seasoned mentors, associates take charge of pro bono cases specially screened to maximize trial and oral advocacy opportunities.

Pro Bono

We also dedicate significant portions of our time to pro bono projects. Not only do we view pro bono work as the linchpin of our commitment to community engagement, we also see it as an outstanding training opportunity for our junior lawyers.

“Hueston Hennigan has delivered on its promise of early associate responsibility and training since day 1. I hit the ground running, just weeks after starting at the firm, when I was entrusted with drafting the complaint in a high-profile First Amendment pro bono matter, serving immigrants in detention. I’m consistently provided opportunities to work on interesting cases and expand my skills. At the end of my first year, I was part of the eBay v. Amazon trial team, where I was able to examine witnesses, write briefs, and work side-by-side learning from partners who truly are the best in the business. In two short years I’ve worked on every stage of litigation and have come to truly appreciate the unique and exciting environment that is Hueston Hennigan.”

Ashley Artmann, UCLA, Clerked for Hon. Cormac J. Carney, U.S. District Court, Central District of California, and Hon. Kim McLane Wardlaw, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit

Hear From Our Associates

“The culture at Hueston Hennigan is a very unique and rewarding experience. I wanted to go somewhere where I would get significant responsibility early on.”
Lauren McGrory Johnson, Counsel

Law Clerks

Nearly 70 percent of associates at Hueston Hennigan have clerked for judges at federal district courts or federal courts of appeals. Former judicial clerks bring real-world experience as well as superior research skills to their work, seamlessly stepping into positions of significant responsibility. We offer a $125,000 bonus for one judicial clerkship and $150,000 for two, and credit for time spent clerking. We encourage current or prospective clerks to apply.

“It’s easy to find promises of “substantive experience” on firm websites, but a lot harder to find the real thing. That industry catchphrase does not begin to describe my first four years here. I’ll soon be starting my fifth trial. In my prior trials, I’ve been given opportunities—including examining witnesses, arguing motions in limine, and drafting high-stakes briefs – that, I can say with certainty, would have been reserved for senior attorneys at other law firms. I’ve also worked on appeals in the Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit; drafted more motions than I can count; and argued several times in both state in federal court. Which is to say if you come to Hueston Hennigan hoping for early experience, be ready. You’ll get it.”

Michael Todisco, Stanford Law School, clerked for Hon. Thomas M. Hardiman U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit
