Access to justice for people of all communities is fundamental to the practice of law, and to who we are as lawyers. We leverage our exceptional energy, creativity, and vigorous and zealous representation to make a lasting impact on the communities in which we work and live.
Committed to the idea that lawyers are important contributors to social change, we encourage our team to dedicate their time to helping people in need and the organizations that serve them.
We support an array of nonprofits grappling with domestic violence, fair housing issues, migrant representation, and child hunger, among other major challenges. We offer pro bono legal services, provide philanthropic support for worthy causes, and share our legal knowledge and experience by volunteering on organization and association boards. We take great pride in the high percentage of Hueston Hennigan’s associate and partner involvement in social justice causes.
Not only do we view pro bono work as the linchpin of our commitment to community engagement, we also see it as an outstanding training opportunity for our junior lawyers. We urge associates to take on pro bono engagements that are meaningful and will provide them with significant opportunities to hone their pretrial and courtroom skills and engage with clients. As part of our firmwide commitment to pro bono work, we credit time worked by associates on pro bono matters on a 1:1 basis for bonus purposes.
Our lawyers partner closely with a broad array of legal services organizations to win significant victories for pro bono clients. These include the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice, Kids in Need of Defense, Inner City Law Center, Western Center on Law & Poverty, Food from the Bar, Equality California, and the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County.
