Plessman and Libeu Named to Daily Journal’s Top Women Lawyers List

The Daily Journal cited Ms. Plessman’s recent victories including securing a preliminary injunction in favor of Sweegen, a maker of the stevia sweetener Bestevia, in an action alleging breaches of company officials of their fiduciary duties. She also won a motion for summary judgment for Broadcom in a breach of contract action, resulting in a dismissal. The newspaper also noted her representation of Edison International and Southern California Edison in proceedings stemming from the Thomas Fire in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and in litigation arising from the recent Montecito mudslides. This marks the fourth consecutive year and the fifth time in six years she has been honored as one of the state’s most accomplished female lawyers.

Allison Libeu focuses her practice on complex civil litigation with a niche specialty in the “corporate divorce” arena, which typically involves disputes between the founders or owners of a business. Editors noted her representation of Amazon.com in two suits alleging the big online retailer poached sellers from eBay Inc. and her representation of the online gay dating site Grindr. This marks Ms. Libeu’s first time on the list of California’s most accomplished female lawyers.

9th Circuit Victory for Bausch Health

“The Ninth Circuit opinion affirms the district court’s thorough order in full, granting Bausch a complete victory,” said lead counsel Moez M. Kaba.

Hueston Hennigan took over the case in early 2018 and aggressively moved to bring the case to an end, winning a motion for judgment on the pleadings in May 2019. On appeal, the Ninth Circuit again sided with Bausch and refused to revive the case. Adopting Bausch’s arguments, the Ninth Circuit held that the case could not proceed in the absence of Bausch’s foreign subsidiaries and, applying recent Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit law, that the court lacked jurisdiction over those subsidiaries.

The Hueston Hennigan team includes Moez M. Kaba, Sourabh Mishra, Michael Todisco, and Michael Acquah.
